Gely Korzhev. Back to Venice
May 10 - November 3
The exhibition is a joint collaboration between Tret’jakov Gallery, the Institute of Russian Realist Art and Ca ‘Foscari’s Center for Studies on the Arts of Russia (CSAR), with the support of IntesaSanpaolo.
Here you will see many documents, photos, projections, with over 50 paintings, a consistent and comprehensive sequence of works by the Russian master, Gely Korzhev, one of the leading figures in Soviet and Russian painting of the second half of the 20th century.
The exhibition is organized in thematic nuclei, focusing critically on the aspects that have been considered most relevant in the artist’s vast production. You will see the artist’s monumental nudes, his extraordinary still lifes, some other particularly successful examples of his original declination of Soviet Realist painting.
The essential center of the exhibition, however, hinges on the painful images of the memory of the years of the Great Patriotic War, which is the Russian name of the Second World War. The exhibition ends with the painter’s visual meditations on the collapse of the Soviet system.
