“L’arte a Verona tra avanguardia e tradizione. L’Ottocento e il primo Novecento da Hayez a Casorati”
23 March 2018 - 29 September 2019
The exhibition of the historical collection, developed on the main floor of Palazzo della Ragione, curated by the director Francesca Rossi, aims to highlight a constant feature of the artistic culture of Verona through the centuries, the ability to measure themselves against a crossroads of different cultures while establishing itself as a center of production autonomous and original.
Over the span of over a century, between the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Verona has been the protagonist of cultural and artistic exchanges and relations with Milan (academic culture, the Risorgimento, the scapigliatura, the Divisionism), with Venice, Florence, Naples and with the Nordic culture.
The itinerary, divided into three rooms, presents about 90 works including paintings, works on paper and sculptures that illustrate distinctive episodes of the history and figurative culture of Verona and Italy between 1830 and 1920, in a pressing dialectic between the poles of ‘avant-garde and tradition.
