Letizia Battaglia. Fotografia come scelta di vita
March 20 - August 18
The art exhibition “Letizia Battaglia – Fotografia come scelte di vita” will be open to the public from 20 March to 18 August 2019, in the famous Venetian palace on the Giudecca.
The exhibition presents 300 photographs, many of them unpublished, revealing the social and political context in which they were taken.
The exhibition, thematically ordered, focuses on those topics that have built the most characteristic expressive figure of Letizia Battaglia, the first women photojournalist in Italy.
The portraits of women, men or animals, or children, are just a few chapters that make up the exhibition, plus those on cities like Palermo, and then on politics, life, death, love and two films that deepen his human and artistic life. The result is a true portrait of Letizia Battaglia, an intellectual against the tide, but also a poetic and political photographer.
Known above all for having documented with her photographs what the mafia has represented for her city, from murders to mourning, from political intrigue to the struggle that was identified with the figures of Falcone and Borsellino, during her career Letizia Battaglia has also told the life of the poor and the revolts of the squares, always keeping the city as a privileged space for observation of reality, as well as its urban landscape.
