Duomo e Battistero (The Dome and The Baptistery)

The Dome was built in 1522 by Michelangelo Buonarroti  and it is considered as the main place of Catholic worship in Padua.

It is dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta and for this reason it is also called Basilica cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta.

Today it is the seat of the bishop of Padua.

Next to the Dome there is the Baptistery with a cycle of frescoes by Giusto de’ Menabuoi.
The fresco cycle was painted between 1375 and 1376 and it is considered a real masterpiece.

Address: Piazza Duomo
