Ca’ Foscari – Venice University

Università Ca’ Foscari is a public university in Venice.

Since its foundation in 1868 it has been housed in the Venetian Gothic palace of Ca’ Foscari, from which it takes its name. The palace stands on the Grand Canal, between the Rialto and San Marco, in the sestiere of Dorsoduro.

The institute became a university in 1968. It currently has eight departments and almost 21,000 students. It is one of the highest ranked universities in Italy, ranking 5th in 2017 out of 89 universities.

You can visit the building booking a guided tour: you will have the chance to discover two of the historic seats of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice: Ca’ Foscari and Ca’ Dolfin.

The tour starts at Ca’ Foscari, the home of the University since 1868. Built in 1453 for the Foscari family, the building contains magnificent works of art and spaces of architectural and artistic interest.

The Ca’ Foscari bridge connects the institutional headquarters of the University to Ca’ Dolfin. This XVI century building is famous for the lavish “Silvio Trentinlecture hall – an awe-inspiring space decorated with mirrors, stuccoes, and magnificent eighteenth-century frescoes.
