This city is known as the site of the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
Verona has developed progressively and uninterruptedly over two thousand years, integrating high quality artistic elements of different periods, including the government of Della Scala family between the XIII and XVI centuries, and that of the Venetian Republic between the early XV and late XVIII century.
Verona is also famous for its art and architecture as well as for its urban structure and it is considered as a “excellent example of a fortified city”.
Verona has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
