Palio del drappo verde

Palio del drappo verde, also known as the Palio di Verona, is a palio that takes place in Verona.

Established, for the first time in 1208 to celebrate the victory of the podestà of Verona against Azzo VI d’Este and the Sambonifacio, it was also mentioned by Dante in his Commedia.

Today it represents the oldest organized race in the world.

Since 2008, after centuries of suspension, it has been proposed again as a sports competition.

In 1796, because of the beginning of the French domination, there was the last palio, until the resumption in 2008 on the occasion of the celebrations for the anniversary of the 800th anniversary of its birth, and that represents the 591st edition.
